Commercial vehicles bid farewell to extensive competition and open up a new high-quality track with green intelligence

At present, the domestic commercial vehicle industry is entering a critical window period of multiple changes overlapping. Policy reshaping standards, rapid increase in new energy penetration rate, continuous expansion of overseas markets, and accelerated implementation of intelligent technologies are driving the industry to move away from the extensive competition mode of competing on price and scale in the past, and towards a high-quality direction of greening, intelligence, and branding. This round of transformation is not a simple product iteration, but a reconstruction of the underlying logic of the industry.

The systematic adjustment of the policy system sets the track and solidifies the bottom line for industry transformation. The new versions of GB 1589-2026 and GB 7258-2026 will be implemented in 2027, relaxing the size restrictions for intelligent vehicles and clearing the standard obstacles for the implementation of intelligent commercial vehicles; A special subsidy of 22 billion yuan for scrapping and updating old operating trucks will continue to drive the replacement of existing markets and guide the transition of transportation capacity to new energy. At the same time, the tightening of China's seventh emission standard and commercial vehicle carbon credits have raised the low-carbon threshold, while the "Guidelines for Overseas Competition Behavior and Compliance Construction in the Automotive Industry" have drawn a compliance red line for going global. The policy combination of support and regulation is no longer simply stimulating short-term sales, but forcing enterprises to layout low-carbon and intelligent technologies in advance, eliminate outdated production capacity, and promote long-term sustainable development of the industry.

Market data confirms the effectiveness of the transformation, and the growth structure has undergone fundamental changes. In August, the domestic penetration rate of new energy commercial vehicles reached 49.3%, and the penetration rate of new energy light trucks reached a historical high. The number of new energy heavy trucks steadily increased, and the technological pattern of pure electricity as the main source and hydrogen energy as the supplement has basically taken shape. The domestic market is showing a K-shaped differentiation, with uneven regional demand. Traditional heavy truck leaders are holding onto their basic positions, while new energy and new forces are rapidly breaking through; The overseas market is even more impressive, with 120000 commercial vehicles exported in August, a year-on-year increase of 53.3%. Going global has become an important growth engine for the industry. The changes in the market send a clear signal: the era of relying solely on low prices to increase volume has come to an end, and only enterprises with new energy product capabilities and overseas operation capabilities can stand firm in market differentiation.

Technological innovation is the core driving force behind this industrial transformation. The megawatt level supercharging and swapping mode solves the pain points of pure electric heavy-duty truck energy replenishment, while the hydrogen energy heavy-duty truck targets long-distance heavy-duty scenarios, and the hybrid solid-liquid battery attempts to solve the contradiction between load capacity and endurance; L4 autonomous driving is being implemented on a large scale in closed scenarios such as ports, mining areas, and industrial parks. The concept of software defined cars is gradually being implemented, and AI is empowering the full lifecycle operation of vehicles. New energy commercial vehicles are no longer limited to short distance urban distribution, and continue to penetrate into mainline heavy-duty scenarios. Products are shifting from homogeneous hardware to customized and intelligent comprehensive transportation solutions. The focus of commercial vehicle competition extends from vehicle manufacturing to the full chain competition of energy replenishment networks, intelligent algorithms, and operational services.

Accelerate industrial synergy and reshape the domestic commercial vehicle industry chain pattern. Top enterprises and car companies have joined forces to tackle key issues in the fields of core components, new energy, and intelligent connectivity, enhancing the independent and controllable capabilities of the industrial chain. The Liangshan Special Auto Show, Hanover Commercial Auto Show and other industry events have become stages for the concentrated display of new technologies and products. They are not only a review ground for domestic technological achievements, but also a window for Chinese commercial vehicles to showcase their strength to the world. Collaboration in the industrial chain can reduce duplicate R&D investment, concentrate resources to overcome bottleneck links, and support Chinese commercial vehicle brands to go overseas.

Under opportunities, challenges cannot be ignored either. The differentiation of domestic regional markets, operating costs of new energy commercial vehicles, challenges in scaling up intelligent scenarios, as well as compliance and localized operational risks in overseas markets, are all thresholds that the industry needs to cross. The old path of low price competition in the past is no longer feasible, and commercial vehicle companies must actively change their mindset: deeply cultivate electrification and intelligent technology internally, and create transportation products that are suitable for multiple scenarios; Adhere to branding for overseas expansion and abandon low price competition.

In summary, driven by the four forces of policy, market, technology, and globalization, the high-quality transformation of the commercial vehicle industry has become the trend. Whoever can seize the opportunity of green intelligent transformation, build a complete industrial chain capability, adhere to compliance and branding to go global, will be able to seize the initiative in the new round of industrial competition and promote the leap of China's commercial vehicle industry from large to strong.
